Toronto Registered Massage Therapy & Aromatherapy

Massage therapy is a comprehensive intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain (Massage Therapy Act, 1991). Each client is provided with a personalized treatment tailored to their individual needs and modified as necessary. Applying their knowledge of anatomy and physiology, massage therapists use a variety of modern and well-established massage techniques, as well as remedial exercise, hydrotherapy (hot and cold) and other therapies to treat their clients. It is a clinically-oriented health option that achieves undeniable results in the relief of an array of discomforts stemming from stress, muscular overuse, injuries and many chronic pain syndromes. There are many different types of massage including, but not limited to: deep tissue, relaxation, aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage, pre and post natal, sports, etc.

Aromatherapy massage combines massage therapy and essential oils, and uses the restorative properties of the essential oils to relax and heal your body and mind. Essential oils are one hundred percent natural, highly concentrated oils and, during the treatment, are usually combined with the lotion or oil that the therapist will be using. These oils are absorbed by the skin and transported through the body's blood and lymphatic system to organs, glands, nerves and soft tissue. They are also absorbed by your olfactory senses, which are connected to the limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions, and influences the nervous system and hormones, therefore when you inhale essential oil molecules, it can affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. Different oils have different effects on the body. Common ailments that can be treated are stress, headaches, fluid retention, muscle aches and pains and fatigue.
